Magicyclops, Best of Synthesizer Hits (Global Popstar, 2005)

For all of you who thought that Magicyclops was just your favorite, fun-loving dj, YOU WERE WRONG. If he isn't already, now he can be your favorite, fun-loving recording artist, too! I have to say, you certainly have to be in the right mood to listen to this, but when you are, it's nothing but fun. With songs like "Unicorns in Space," "Rainbow of Pain," and "The Diabolical Mr. Pickles," how could it not be? Now, I can feel myself starting to become a salesperson here – and that's somehow fitting in this funny world of alter-egos – so, I'm not going to fight it.

The cd is pure fun and an amazing bargain with sixteen music tracks, a hidden track and bonus video material. The artwork alone is worth the $7.99. It reads like a "Where's Waldo" of Magicyclops paraphernalia. Now my cheeks are kind of hurting from giggling too much. Things like this just fill me with mirth, I can't explain it. It's certainly not for every one. It's certainly not for the cynical and snobbish. I don't even know how to begin describing the music. Synth music for B-movies that never got released? A David Lynch soundtrack gone awry? Well, whatever, it's good and listening to his cd is almost as fun as interviewing him in person. I highly suggest either or both.
